Winterlude takes place along the World's largest skating rink, the Rideau Canal Skate way, and sites across the Capital. Close to 700, 00 people take part in Winterlude activities - most of which are free - each year. Fantastic ice carvings by artists from around the world fill Confederation Park in downtown Ottawa. The world's biggest snow playground - the Snowflake Kingdom - welcomes kids of all ages to Jacques Cartier Park in downtown Gatineau. The Winterlude mascots - the Ice Hogs family - are reputed to live under the ice of the frozen Rideau Canal Skate way. Winterlude has been celebrated in Ottawa and Gatineau for over three decades.
Winterlude is Ottawa's unique winter festival that takes place every year in the month of February. Winterlude 2011 will be held from February 4 - 21, (open on "Family Day"). People from all over the world come to Ottawa to take part in this amazing event. We have been so many times and we have enjoyed it every time. Every year the National Capital Commission (NCC) adds more activities and variety to improve on the year before. The festival takes place at a few different sites in the city: Rideau Canal Skate way; Confederation Park; Jacques-Cartier Park; Museum of Civilization; and Ottawa City Hall.

Every February, Canada's Capital Region is host to Winterlude, North America's greatest winter festival. Three fun-filled weekends of excitement and activity await the whole family. From spectacular ice carvings to an amazing playground made of snow, Winterlude is a great way to take in the best of our Canadian winter. Skate on the world's longest skating rink - right in the heart of Ottawa! Marvel at the glittering ice sculptures or take in a spectacular fire show. Our mascots, the Ice Hog Family, are waiting for you.
