Ottawa International Jazz Festival

The TD Canada Trust Ottawa International Jazz Festival was founded in 1980 and is now a multi-week festival of jazz music, featuring performers from all around the world. It is held in the summer in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and takes place at various locations throughout the city. The main events are held at Confederation Park in the downtown area. The festival is quickly growing into one of the biggest jazz festivals in Canada. Past big-name performing artists include Dave Brubeck, Smokey Robinson, Herbie Hancock, Lou Reed, and George Benson. The festival celebrated its 30th year of music in 2010, and it continues to increase its venue.
The TD Canada Trust Ottawa International Jazz Festival is one of the National Capital Region's premiere music events. It features the finest jazz musicians from Canada and around the world performing in open air venues and intimate studio spaces where thousands can enjoy world class music. The 10-days festival is staged each year from late June through early July, spanning the Canada Day, celebrated annually each July 1st.
Concerts take place outdoors at Confederation Park in the heart of downtown Ottawa next to the Rideau Canal, the National Arts Centre and various other locations; club venues are also part of the mix.
Founded in 1981, the Festival has attracted jazz greats from across Canada and around the world, including Herbie Hancock, Dave Brubeck, Roy Haynes, Toots Thielemans, Branford Marsalis, Sonny Rollins, Diana Krall, D.D. Jackson, Maynard Ferguson, and John Mayall - to name a few. The Festival features hundreds of performers - including approximately 300 Canadian performers in the line-up each year - and has attracted up to 180,000 fans.
