Ottawa Chamber Music Festival


The Ottawa Chamber Music Festival is a music festival in Ottawa, Canada. The world's largest chamber music festival, the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival presents renowned artists from around the world to perform in churches and venues across downtown Ottawa Although the concerts are primarily traditional classical music, the scope has evolved to include music by pop and jazz composers and also music from non-European countries. The concerts of a typical day would have several different types of music Among those who have been or will be in the festival are the Beaux Arts Trio, the Tokyo String Quartet, Martin Beaver, Penderecki Quartet, Paul Stewart, Martin Chalifour, Monica Whicher, Julie Nesrallah, Quartango, Neil Gripp, Richard Raymond, the St. Lawrence Quartet, Mayumi Seiler, Keller Quartet, and Adaskin String Trio. Other artists include Marc-André Hamelin, Paul Merkelo, Patrick Wedd, Guy Fouquet, Musica Camerata, Stéphane Lemelin, Jennifer Swartz, and Gino Quilico. Roman Borys, Gryphon Trio is the Artistic Director.
Chamberfest is a two-week festival that takes place each year from late July through early August, spanning the August Civic Holiday long weekend. It presents about 100 performances featuring about 250 artists from across Canada and around the globe. It was established in 1994, and has steadily grown into the biggest event of its kind on the planet, presenting over 120 concerts and attracting more that 60,000 chamber music enthusiasts. Many performances take place in the perfect acoustical settings offered by a number of historic Ottawa churches, though theatres and performance venues are also part of the mix.
